Public sector dietitians

The Association for Dietetics in South Africa (ADSA) has included a new executive portfolio for “Public Sector Dietitians” for the 2009-2011 term of office; as we have realised that dietitians in this sector of employment may have different needs and challenges than other employment sectors. As this is still a new portfolio, we would like to encourage all dietitians employed in the public sector to give inputs with regards to areas where ADSA can offer assistance and support; keeping in mind that we are a professional association representing the profession of dietetics.

The main aims for this term of office are to:

  • establish line of communication between dietitians in the public sector and the association
  • keep dietitians in the public sector informed on relevant development in this sector; including information on relevant employer/labour negotiations
  • establish a support network for dietitians in the public service
  • further build on the representation of ADSA in relevant organisations

News update

Annual wage negotiations:  At a Public Service Co-ordinating Bargaining Council on 12 August 2011, the employer tabled a final signed offer, including a 6.8% annual salary adjustment and further details regarding medical aid assistance and home ownership.  Most unions have accepted and signed this offer and it is expected that the agreed annual salary adjustment will be effective 1 May 2011 with payment before 15 September on a separate payment run.
