ADSA Nutrition Education Award
The aim of the award is to promote interest and awareness in the field of Nutrition Education as defined by the Professional Board for Dietetics in “The scope of the dietitian”; and to highlight innovative work done by dietitians working in this field.
The first award was first made in 1990 and at that time was called the ADSA Award for Community Dietetics. Over the years the name of the award was changed to the ADSA/SASA Nutrition Education Award.
A panel that is independent of the South African Sugar Association decides the winner. The award is judged using criteria based on the work done by the dietitian and the way it is communicated. The award is given once every two years and is presented at the nutrition congress.
The award is presented on a biennial basis and its aim is to promote interest and awareness in the field of Nutrition Education as defined by the Professional Board for Dietetics in “the scope of the dietitian”; and to highlight innovative work done by dietitians working in this field. Registered dietitians who are full members of ADSA qualify to be nominated for the ADSA/SASA Award for Nutrition Education.
Nominations may be submitted by an ADSA member, colleague or employers. The candidate should be nominated for one specific measurable accomplishment, for example – a nutrition education programme/project in a specific area/field. The nominee must be a living citizen or permanent resident of South Africa, and the work for which he/she is nominated must have been carried out in South Africa during the last 4 years. The nomination should follow the specified format; details are available from SASA’s nutrition department.
