The new CPD system has been in operation since 1 April 2006 and the CPD Accreditation Officer is responsible for the following:

  • Annual accreditation of service providers
  • Ad hoc accreditation of activities (individuals and non-accredited service providers once-off applications)
  • Record-keeping of approved providers and activities, reports of provider activities
  • Arrangements for regular ADSA Accreditation Committee meetings and minutes of the meetings
  • Regular communication with service providers and dietitians regarding CPD
  • Suggestions to the HPCSA CPD Committee

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is education and training undertaken beyond the requirements for entry into the profession of dietetics. It encompasses one or more of the areas within the scope of dietetic practice, namely therapeutic nutrition, community nutrition and food service administration. Debbi Marais is responsible for the CPD Portfolio on the ADSA Executive Council. As from 1 April 2006 dietitians will have to comply with the new  (CPD) system, and Debbi has been working on communicating the new system to ADSA members.

30 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are required per year on any level (**Level 1-3).  CEUs have a shelf-life of 24 months which means that each dietitian will have to have 60 CEUs at any given time.  No capturing of points will take place and dietitians will have the responsibility to keep their own record of activities attended and CEUs accrued.
