Katie Pereira

Catherine (Katie) Pereira is a permanent, full-time lecturer at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) in the Department of Dietetics and Nutrition. Prior to this, she spent almost a year working as a lecturer at UNISA. She worked at JB Consultancy from 2013-2015, where her focus was maternal, infant and young child nutrition in developing countries and her work was focussed on a global research project with Helen Keller International in Cambodia, Nepal, Senegal and Tanzania that assessed promotion practices of foods commonly fed to children under two years. She started her career working for the Department of Health for eight years (2005-2013), in the Western Cape and Kwazulu-Natal. Katie is a Registered Dietitian and completed her B.Sc (Med) (Hons) in Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Cape Town, has a Master’s in Nutrition from Stellenbosch University and is an alumnus of the African Nutrition Leadership Programme.
